FIBERLICIOUS! and OBTAINIUM
Art on display at The Point, Center for Arts and Education,
C.C. Young Retirement Community,
Mark your calendar for Monday, April 24th, beginning at 6:30 pm!
Make plans to attend the closing reception to join in the fun and excitement! Each DAFA member will have the opportunity to cast a ballot for the “Members’ Choice” award. As an extra treat, we’ll have a slideshow running that will be a blast from DAFA’s past!
(Reminder: Your entries for both shows must be picked up at the conclusion of the reception. If you can’t be there, please make arrangements with another member to pick up your work for you. Thanks!)
FIBERLICIOUS! is DAFA's annual members' show. Each member was invited to enter three pieces, and our juror, Gayle Curry, made her final selections. Gayle will decide which pieces merit awards when she views the show in person, and she will present those awards at the closing reception on April 24th.
Our juror is Gayle Curry, an extremely talented and prolific mixed media artist in Oklahoma City. Gayle, a former gallery owner, has a wealth of experience in both the creative and business side of art. She is sought after for commercial commissions, owns the Paseo School of Art, and is a tireless advocate for the arts.
FIBERLICIOUS! features 40 fabulous pieces, with an incredible diversity of style, color, technique, and subject matter. The show also includes a memorial to long-time DAFA member, Flo Barry.
2017 DAFA MEMBERS CHALLENGE
A TRIBUTE TO FIBER ARTIST BETTY SMITH
DAFA members were challenged to create fiber art using Betty's eclectic collection of African wax print batiks, combined with at least one found object.
In the spirit of OBTAINIUM (materials obtained at little or no cost), members used their own resources, borrowed or thrifted materials to create original works of art.
Volunteer judges Christine Miller and Jules Rushing bring their jurying experience and critical talents to award prizes for these 17 eclectic entries.
Jules is an award winning mixed-media art quilter who paints and dyes fabrics. She teaches and maintains a website (Studiojulesart.com), Etsy shop (http://www.etsy.com/shop/StudioJulesArt), and blog (julesrushing.blogspot.com) which feature her art quilts and colorful dyed fabrics. She is an experienced exhibition coordinator, curator, and juror of fiber shows. Additionally Jules is active in raising funds and awareness for finding a cure for Alzheimers disease.
Christine is a weaver of cloth and metal, and has numerous awards for excellence in art education. She is the co-founder of ExploreFiber.com, an online fiber educational resource providing instructional fiber lessons with informative blog entries for all fiber enthusiasts. Her current focus is teaching high school art and fiber technique labs for adults. Her blog is artistteacherjournal.com.
Below are two dolls in the Obtainium show.
There are a total of 17 entries.
