"Oh, Chapeau! The Secrets of Millinery Fibers”
Bring and wear a hat for our Mini Workshop and Program.
There will be a $5 kit fee. Exact change is appreciated and encouraged. Members, please remember to bring your Go Kit. Needle nose pliers are also needed. Make sure you have black thread, a few needles, and scissors in your kit. Marianne will provide a plentiful selection of feathers for our workshop. We look forward to seeing many excited members learning how to work with feathers.
We will work with millinery feather bundles by Marianne Lewis, owner of Charming Lady Designs Handmade Millinery.
Feathers are one of the most commonly used fibers in millinery trim. They naturally come in all shapes, colors and sizes…and through a bit of lady (or man)- made magic, they can take on so many more variations.
Join us to work with commonly used feathers and learn some of their secrets. You will leave with “feather bundles” that can be used to trim a hat, tuck into a vase, pin to your coat, or just admire.
Marianne will provide a plentiful selection of feathers for everyone to experiment with, plus learn some tricks of the trade.
Program, 6:45pm - 9 pm
Marianne Lewis, the Hat Lady
Our speaker, Marianne Lewis, will give a presentation on hats. The Board will provide tea and cookies for the event, along with cups and saucers, napkins, sugar and cream.
Marianne Lewis is a milliner, owner and designer of Charming Lady Designs and works from her home studio in Allen, TX. She has been studying and creating hats of all designs for the past four years and has learned from master milliners, online tutorials, classic books and workshops like this.
Marianne has a love of textiles and jewelry from all eras and corners of the globe. She is inspired by La Belle Epoch, Art Deco and Art Nouveau movements, and the clean lines of the Mid- 20th century. She is currently fascinated with the construction of historical clothing and the social expectations associated with historical fashion.
