Dallas Area Fiber Artists

Advancing Public Awareness of Fiber Art as Fine Art

Dallas Area Fiber Artists members have the opportunity each year to participate in our annual, juried fiber show. The shows cover a variety of mediums, including mixed media, wearable art, felting, paper and many more.

BEYOND BOUNDARIES: Fiber Art Explorations

The 2025 Annual Show

Original exhibition: July 1- August 9, 2025, at CC Young, The Point

Second exhibition: August 19 - September 14, 2025, at Granville Arts Center

About the show

The 2025 theme, Beyond Boundaries: Fiber Art Explorations, encouraged participants to reimagine boundaries in our world whether geographical, cultural, social, political or conceptual. It was a call to artistically engage with these constructs, using fiber art techniques. Artwork could be realistic or abstract, global or introspective.

The aim of our 2025 exhibition was to inspire viewers to consider our collective humanity, and themselves, in new and extraordinary ways through engagement with fiber art.

Members of the Dallas Area Fiber Artists were asked to submit artwork that illustrates this theme through visually descriptive imagery, materials, and technique.

Venues

The 2025 Beyond Boundaries show was first exhibited at The Point at C.C. Young, a Dallas venue that has been extremely supportive of our organization. The exhibit was on display from Tuesday, July 1, through Saturday, August 9, 2025.

The exhibit then moved to the Granville Arts Center in Garland, Texas, where it was on display from Tuesday, August 19, to Sunday, September 14, 2025.

Juror

The 2025 show was juried by Deborah Boschert, an acclaimed artist, author and teacher. She creates art quilt collages with layers of fabric, paint and stitching. Her artwork makes a visual impact from across the room and offers intimate, personal details upon close viewing. Deborah’s art quilt collages often include personal symbols like ladders, chairs and bowls. The shapes, compositions, lines and textures in her work serve as metaphors for ideas and themes including growth, transition, rest and curiosity.

Deborah is the author of Art Quilt Collage: A Creative Journey in Fabric, Paint and Stitch. She has appeared on Quilting Arts TV and The Quilt Show and is published in several books and magazines. Her work has been included in Art Quilt Elements, Quilts=Art=Quilts, several Studio Art Quilt Associates global exhibitions, and many other juried exhibitions. Deborah’s quilts can be found in the collection of the International Quilt Museum, the Frank Klein Quilt Collection and as a mural in the Dallas Arts District. She is a past president of Studio Art Quilt Associates and a dedicated supporter of art quilts, art quilters and the importance of fiber and textiles in the world of fine art.

Deborah lectures and teaches workshops both in person and virtually with artist groups and quilt guilds all over the US and internationally. She offers opportunities to explore fused appliqué, print making on fabric, captivating compositions, personal symbols and using stitch as a design element. Her workshops provide students with both structure and creative flexibility. She is known for her organization, enthusiastic spirit and encouraging vibe.

Deborah lives in Lewisville, Texas, with her husband, Jeff. She’s delighted her two grown kids live, work and attend school in the Dallas area. Deborah loves to travel, do crossword puzzles, drink coffee, practice yoga and listen to podcasts.

Pushing the Envelope

The 2025 Member Challenge

July 1 - August 9, 2025

About the Challenge

Dallas Area Fiber Artists members were challenged to create a fiber art piece using the contents of a special kit, available for a $5 fee at DAFA meetings earlier in the year. The Pushing the Envelope member challenge showcased the diverse approaches to similar themes and materials; entries reflected each artist’s creative expression.

This was a small separate, non-juried display that is shown alongside the juried members’ exhibit.

Entry Requirements

Each entry had to incorporate a visible amount of at least one recycled security envelope and two of the other materials provided in the kit. Artists were allowed to use them on the back of the piece. All entrants were strongly encouraged to add their own ingredients.

Kits were available for purchase at each DAFA meeting held from February through May 2025.  Kit fees funded the cash awards. There was a limit of one (1) kit per person (a change from previous years).

Exhibition Venue

The exhibit was on display from July 1 through August 9, 2025, at The Point, at CC Young Retirement Community in Dallas, Texas.
